Here, Each Child's Education Is Unique
At Pilot, there is no standard curriculum. Each child is unique. Every student brings his or her own set of strengths to the learning environment. There is one unifying element behind all of our instruction: the emphasis on diagnostic teaching. Our educators are able to constantly evaluate every student's changing skills and tailor the approach to best meet each child's learning needs.
Pilot has a language-based curriculum with emphasis on reading, writing, spelling, listening and speaking skills. Mathematics is also emphasized, supplemented by science, social studies, library, art, music, health, swimming and physical education. Integrated computer technology plays a key role in the instructional process. Fundamentals such as speech/ language therapy, occupational therapy and physical therapy, adaptive physical education, and music therapy, are provided for children who require them. All students participate in Choices, a life/social skills program coordinated by the school counselor.
Pilot is organized into lower, middle and upper divisions, each headed by a division head. The class sizes are one teacher to 5 - 8 children (staff to student ratio is 1 : 5). The student age range is 5 to 14 years.
