ADMISSIONS

Join The Pilot School

For decades, The Pilot School has served as an oasis for families in search of an education answer for their children.  We offer rolling admissions and manage our enrollment to allow for midyear transfers because we know what an immediate difference “the right fit” can make.  We witness it everyday.

Our admission procedures are designed to determine whether The Pilot School’s approach to learning will be the most beneficial educational option for the applicant. The process begins with an initial inquiry, and we then encourage all interested families to attend an open house, visit our campus, and meet our Head of School, Dr. Alli Williams.

Who We Serve

The Pilot School has a deep commitment to children with learning differences. Each child is valued as an individual and attention is given to that child’s unique learning profile. Pilot’s customized programs effectively teach children ages 5-14 years of age, who have:

  • Average to above average cognitive ability
  • A language-based learning difference including, but not limited to:
    • Dyslexia (or a specific learning difference (SLD) in reading)
    • Dysgraphia (or a specific learning difference (SLD) in writing)
    • Dyscalculia (or a specific learning difference (SLD) in math)
    • Auditory Processing Disorder
    • Receptive and/or Expressive delays
  • Lack of academic achievement in reading, writing, spelling, or mathematics
  • The following non-language based learning differences:
    • ADHD
    • Executive Functioning Deficits
    • Sensory Integration Deficits

Who is Outside Our Scope of Service

We know full well the problems that abound when students are in environments that are ill-suited for their needs. We are particularly sensitive to that dynamic and avoid it at all costs. It is out of deep care for children and families that we are careful about who we admit and promise success to. Students that fall outside the scope of our service are those who have:

  • A primary behavioral diagnosis*
  • A primary emotional diagnosis*
  • Below average cognitive ability

*Many of our students experience mental health challenges like anxiety and depression that are secondary to or a consequence of their language-based learning differences. Additionally, some of our students struggled to behave appropriately in their past school setting but arrive at Pilot and quickly find it easy to maintain academic stamina and behavioral composure in our custom setting.

Application Process

The first step in the admissions process is to complete an inquiry form.

The next step is to attend an open house presentation in which the Head of School outlines the major components of the program and the students best served by our approach.

Following the open house, if parents still feel their child would be a good candidate for Pilot’s program, the School invites them to submit a psychoeducational evaluation, IEP, or other relevant documents to the Head of School for review.

The Head of School, in partnership with other experts on Pilot’s faculty, reviews the evaluation to determine whether the student’s profile matches the school’s mission and program. If appropriate, the parents are invited to meet with the Head of School to talk more about the child’s experiences in school and to tour Pilot’s campus.

Following that meeting, the School invites the student for a Shadow Day, wherein a schedule that is likely going to be the student’s should they enroll, is created so as to best assess the degree to which the student will be able to benefit from Pilot’s program.

If the shadow day is a success, the School offers an enrollment contract.

Tuition & Financial Aid

The Pilot School’s tuition for the 2024-2025 school year is $41,595. Our tuition price is all-inclusive, meaning there are no additional programmatic, material, or therapeutic fees. No child should miss out on a needed therapy or targeted intervention because of cost. Furthermore, a child’s needs change and grow as they do, so promising success at one price and then asking for another later in the year is unfair.

Financial aid is a critical component for many Pilot families, with over 40% of current families receiving financial assistance. For those families that qualify, 100% receive some level of aid. Financial aid applications may be accessed via the School and Student Services website. Reference The Pilot School Code # 5784 on the application. You can read the Pilot 2024-2025 Tuition Aid and Instructions for more information.  Tips for Completing the SSS Financial Aid Application.

In some instances, expenses incurred by attendance at The Pilot School may be treated as medical deductions by the IRS.

All enrollment deposits and tuition are to be paid through our tuition partner, Smart Tuition.
